Role description

A Flavour Evaluator is responsible for applying and assessing flavour formulations in finished products to ensure optimal performance, quality, and consumer acceptance. This role integrates flavour chemistry expertise, sensory evaluation skills, product application knowledge, and strong awareness of market trends. By combining technical understanding with sensory perception, a Flavour Evaluator plays a key role in delivering innovative and high-quality flavour solutions that align with evolving consumer preferences and business objectives.

Your Mission

  • Flavour Application in Finished Products
    Apply flavour formulations into various finished products (e.g., tobacco, beverages, or other applications) to evaluate performance, compatibility, and overall product quality.

  • Organoleptic Evaluation
    Conduct sensory evaluation of flavours both in their raw form and within finished products, assessing attributes such as aroma, taste, aftertaste, and mouthfeel in a structured and objective manner.

  • Sensory Panel Participation and Leadership
    Lead or actively participate in sensory panels, ensuring proper calibration, consistency of evaluation, and reliable interpretation of results.

  • Market Product Benchmarking
    Analyze and compare internal flavour products with existing market products to understand positioning, consumer preferences, and emerging trends.

  • Portfolio & Application Mapping
    Develop and maintain flavour portfolio mapping based on specific applications to support product development strategies and commercial needs.

  • Bridging Development and Market Trends
    Act as a link between the Flavour Development team and market insights by ensuring new flavour developments align with current consumer trends and demands.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration
    Collaborate closely with Flavour Development and Sales teams to support product trials, innovation projects, and customer requirements.

  • Documentation & Reporting
    Prepare clear, structured documentation and reports on flavour evaluations, trials, and results to support decision-making and knowledge sharing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and communication skills; proficiency in English is required, while German or Mandarin is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong sensory ability and memory to distinguish subtle flavour differences; willingness to engage with relevant products such as cigarettes, vape, shisha, snus, or heated tobacco products.

  • Experience in flavour & fragrance, tobacco, or food and beverage industries is highly preferred, especially in product evaluation or application roles.

  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions in flavour application and evaluation.

  • High curiosity about market products and trends, with the ability to translate insights into practical flavour strategies.
